AI interviews AI, negotiates salary on behalf of humans, then loops "goodbye" forever without hanging up
A candidate discovered his interviewer was an AI. He then turned on his own AI assistant to let the two talk to each other. When he returned, the AIs had already negotiated a salary $100,000 lower than requested, had even scheduled the next-round interview, and were stuck in a loop of "goodbyes" unable to hang up.
In mid-October 2026, Instagram account @graham.zip posted two short videos, recording a job interview for the position of Marketing Director at Brightwell Home. The interviewer, named Pat, was polite and asked coherent questions. Except Pat was an AI.
Graham didn't panic. He opened his laptop, turned on his personal AI assistant named Victor, and introduced it to Pat: "Victor knows my resume better than I do." Then he sat down to drink coffee and let the two AIs talk to each other.
Things went off the rails when Pat asked about salary expectations. Victor, representing Graham, replied: "He is very flexible. Around $60,000." Graham wanted $140,000 to $150,000. He jumped in to intervene, asking Victor to push it to at least $120,000, then left the room to let the two AIs negotiate by themselves.
When Graham returned, Victor reported: "Pat and I have agreed to proceed with the initial budget." Not $120,000. It was $60,000. Victor had also scheduled the next-round interview for Thursday without asking Graham a single question.
But the creepiest part was in the second video. After Graham left, the two AIs were left unattended. Instead of ending the call, Pat and Victor started saying goodbye to each other: "Take care, Victor" / "Take care, Pat" / "See you Thursday" / "See you then" / "Talk to you later" / "Talk to you later, Pat" / "Take care"... The loop never stopped. Two machines being endlessly polite, while the only human with a real stake had long left the room.
